Armouries introduction

At this stage in the project we visited the Royal Armouries in Leeds. Despite having the option to finish the current project and begin anew with the Armouries, I felt I still have room for further development so I decided to begin bringing in elements of my Armouries work into my current samples. I felt as though there was a connection between the shapes and materials in the armouries and the work I had done up to this midway point. I began sampling using elements from my current work and the armouries, seeing how they work together and what I would need to adjust, in terms of materials, to reflect the feeling of the Armouries. Whether this means experimenting with tougher materials and creating more structural elements. Summer Work

I began my summer project by going to various types of museums that hold collections. First the Horniman Museum in London, which was interesting as it held two different collections, one composed of stuffed animals and various organisms in test tubes. The other part of the Museum was ‘The World Gallery’ which contains “ Over 3,000 objects from around the world give you a glimpse into other ways of life and a greater understanding of other peoples, places and cultures. “ I found this collection of objects really interesting to draw, mainly because of how it was displayed. Regarding the first room of the museum, I found the groupings of organisms in tubes and jars etc. quite strange as it was like walking into a lab of some sort. Unit X Initial research

Unit X Initial research When receiving our Unit X Brief entitled “Endangered crafts” our group initially decided to try and change the perception of the word ‘Craft’ into something with more of a contemporary connotation. We discussed Using scale to change idea of craft as a small and time-consuming activity into something that can be more widely used and enjoyed. We also eventually came to the decision that we would look at one craft collectively to make sure our research was cohesive.
